Trouble Right After Departure

Flight 446 had just left LAX Friday afternoon, carrying 226 passengers, two pilots, and seven flight attendants, when the crew received a warning about the aircraftโ€™s left engine. A video from the L.A. Flights YouTube channel captured the dramatic moment flames shot from the engine as the jet climbed into the sky.

โ€œWhoa. Hang on, thatโ€™s not good,โ€ the livestream operator can be heard saying, watching the fire flare in real time.

A Quick Turn and Safe Landing

Despite the serious situation, the flight crew remained calm and professional. Following standard procedures, the pilots circled the airport and safely landed the aircraft at 2:06 p.m., just over 40 minutes after takeoff. Fire trucks rushed to the plane, but the aircraft returned to the gate under its own power. No injuries were reported.
