Fired Like a Champ

The video shows us the first firing of the Moncrieff Disappearing Gun at Crownhill Fort. The gun and carriage have been restored by a team of volunteers. The actual firing happened on Firepower Day, a public event that runs in May every year at the Fort.

While technically, the gun didn’t really “disappear” the man in the video clarified that if it had enough projectile on it would disappear from the outside view of the Fort.

Still, it’s quite mind-blowing to think that in a combat scenario, disappearing guns can deliver devastating firepower to their enemy before it vanishes to safety for a reload. The gun will be rolled up immediately, and then recoiled back down as soon as it is fired.

On May 10th, 2023, this gun will be fired once more at a special event, and tickets will go on sale at Easter.
