Is It Really Effective?
How effective is the P-47 Thunderbolt gun’s effectiveness in attacking German tanks?

A P-47 could attack German tanks with three weapons. Its eight Browning machine guns, up to three high explosive bombs, and its air-to-ground rockets.

It’s worth noting that German tanks’ armor was too thick for the P-47’s machine guns to penetrate. However, it still managed to strike vulnerable air intakes with some success.

Although the bombs can destroy the tank, there are still significant errors in bombing accuracy, making dive bombing not a very effective tactic. Furthermore, P47s were equipped with HVAR air-to-ground rockets, and considered as one of the best anti-tank weapons in the US.
