Golfers at Mona Vale Golf Club near Sydney witnessed an unexpected hazard on Sunday afternoon when a light aircraft made an emergency landing in the middle of the course.
Around 2:20 p.m., a Piper PA-28-140 Cherokee descended rapidly over stunned players before skidding across the green. Witnesses said the planeโs propeller appeared motionless, and the engine sounded as if it had failed moments before touchdown.

โIt came in really low over our heads, and there was no propeller movement,โ said golfer Callum Nicholls. โIt didnโt even sound like the engine was on. All props to the pilotโhe managed to bring it down safely.โ
According to the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB), the aircraft had departed Camden Airport about an hour earlier on a training flight with an instructor and student aboard. Shortly before the crash, the plane reportedly suffered engine power loss, forcing the emergency landing.

Video filmed by golfers captured the dramatic moment the Cherokee hit the turf, followed by shocked shouts from bystanders. Despite the hard landing, both men in their 50s escaped with only minor injuries. Witnesses, including Nichollsโ girlfriendโa doctorโrushed to provide first aid before the men were transported by golf cart and later taken to Royal North Shore Hospital in stable condition.
The ATSB has opened a full investigation, interviewing the pilots, reviewing footage and flight data, and examining maintenance records. Investigators are also asking witnesses with video evidence to come forward. A final report will be released once the inquiry is complete.
