At EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2023, pilot Bernie Vasquez took to the skies in the newly restored P-47D Razorback Thunderbolt, “Bonnie,” performing aerobatics that thrilled the crowd.

This iconic warbird, meticulously restored by AirCorps Aviation, showcased its power and grace as Vasquez executed loops, rolls, and tight turns, pushing the P-47’s impressive capabilities to the limit during the Saturday airshow.

“Bonnie” is a Republic P-47D-23-RA Thunderbolt, serial number 42-27609, belonging to the Dakota Territory Air Museum. The aircraft was originally flown by Major Bill Dunham, commanding officer of the 460th Fighter Squadron in the Philippines during 1944.

Following years of careful restoration, “Bonnie” returned to the skies on May 16, 2023, in Bemidji, Minnesota, with Vasquez at the controls and P-51D Mustang “Miss Kitty III” flying chase.

The P-47 Razorback, known for its ruggedness and firepower, demonstrated its aerobatic prowess in the hands of Vasquez. Its powerful Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp engine roared as it climbed, dived, and maneuvered with precision.
