One of Four
Even though the US Air Force didn’t accept the P-63 Kingcobra for combat use during WWII, it still found its home in the Soviet Air Force. But nowadays, P-63s can easily draw crowds because of their fascinating history and famous Allison engines.
“Pretty Polly,” the Palm Springs Air Museum’s P-63, is one of the only four remaining airworthy Kingcobras left. Its airframe was built in 1945 and is still sporting its Allison V-1710 V-12 piston engine.
In 2018, Pretty Polly decided to test her luck at the 2018 Reno Air Races and won 7th Place in the Silver Unlimited Race with a speed of 307.781 mph. That day, 200,000 people were in attendance – partly to see a Kingcobra participate in the air race for the first time in forty years.
We’d pay good money to see that in person!
