What began as an ordinary drive in southeast Oklahoma City turned into a scene straight out of an action movie when a U.S. Air Force OA-1K Skyraider II nearly struck a passing car before crashing into a nearby field. The dramatic moment was captured by a Tesla dashcam!
A Split-Second Reaction
Driver Matthew Topchian was traveling along Southeast 119th Street on October 23 when he noticed something unusual in the sky.

“I was just driving down the road, and then out of nowhere I saw the plane,” he recalled. “It looked really, really low.” Within seconds, the Skyraider II swept across the road directly in front of his car, forcing him to swerve to avoid a collision.

The Crash
The aircraft, flown by an Air Force pilot and a civilian contractor, was conducting a training mission out of Will Rogers Air National Guard Base when it reportedly suffered an engine failure. Moments after narrowly missing Topchian’s car, the plane struck two power poles and crashed into an open field near Sooner Road. The impact caused power lines to fall and started a small grass fire that firefighters quickly contained.

A Safe Outcome
Miraculously, both crew members walked away uninjured. The cause of the crash remains under investigation, though early reports point to engine trouble during the training flight. The Air Force praised the crew for their quick decision-making, which likely prevented a far worse outcome.
