SPITFIRE Mk. IXb – Flown as it should be!

At the Flugplatzfest Siegerland 2025 in Germany, aviation fans were treated to the raw, unmistakable roar of a Supermarine Spitfire Mk. IXb MH415 — flown masterfully by Georg Raab.

With no commentary or background music, just the deep growl of its Rolls-Royce Merlin engine, the Spitfire raced low over the airfield, banking hard and fast in a display that captured the spirit of 1943.

Built at Castle Bromwich and flown in combat by 129 and 222 Squadrons, MH415 earned victories over German fighters before serving postwar with the Royal Netherlands Air Force. After decades in storage and a painstaking restoration in Australia, it now belongs to the Flying Legends Collection at Siegerland Airport.

Eighty years on, MH415 still flies with the same grace and defiance that once defended Britain’s skies — a true legend, flown exactly as it should be!
