The U.S. Army is gearing up for a major celebration in Washington, D.C., on June 14, marking its 250th anniversary with a full-scale military parade and public festivities along the National Mall.

Construction crews have begun preparing Constitution Avenue near the White House, laying down protective steel plates in the asphalt to accommodate tanks and heavy armored vehicles. The first trains carrying military hardware began arriving in late May, hauling M1 Abrams tanks, M2 Bradleys, Strykers, and M109 Paladin howitzers from Fort Cavazos, Texas—covering a journey of over 1,300 miles.

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime event,” said Col. Kamil Sztalkoper of the III Armored Corps. “It’s a chance for the public to see the Army’s strength, professionalism, and commitment on full display in our nation’s capital.”

The celebration will feature a parade with 6,600 soldiers, 150 military vehicles, and 50 aircraft. A fireworks display and daylong festivities along the National Mall will round out the program.

Soldiers and their equipment will be temporarily housed at a Department of Agriculture building and a General Services Administration warehouse. Personnel will be provided with two MREs and one hot meal daily during their stay.

The Army estimates the event’s cost at $30 million, with a potential increase to $45 million—covering logistics, transport, and staging. The event is designed to honor two and a half centuries of Army history and highlight today’s modern, combat-ready force.
