A rainy June weekend at Reading Regional Airport did not stop enthusiasts from watching rare warbirds soar. The 34th Annual WWII Weekend, held June 6–8, 2025, featured a show-stopping lineup of historic aircraft despite scattered showers and thunderstorms.

Historic Warbirds Take to the Sky

The highlight was the Messerschmitt Me 262 replica from the Military Aviation Museum, making its first-ever appearance at this event. This jet fighter roared into the air, drawing a surge of applause from the crowd, while a FW‑190 also made a thrilling debut after being added in place of a scheduled P‑39.

Thousands of reenactors and families toured the grounds around the hangars, where aircraft including C‑47s, bombers, and models from various nations were on display. A mix of demonstrations, historic vehicles, and living-history camps brought the era to life, even under gray skies.

Rain Did Not Damp Enthusiasm

Although rainstorms interrupted flight schedules twice during the weekend, organizers shifted performances and visitors pressed on. Many took refuge under tents, explored static exhibits, or joined indoor presentations to meet pilots and crew .

When breaks in the weather arrived, jets and props alike took off again. One standout moment was a formation flight featuring the Me 262 flying alongside three piston-engine fighters—the FW‑190 and two P‑51s—offering a rare comparison of WWII-era airpower.

Family Memories Made

A personal highlight came from a visitor whose father filmed the event. Despite the drizzle, the excitement of watching vintage fighters roar off the runway created lasting memories. Families shared photos and videos, grateful they caught footage of the Me 262’s debut flight at Reading.

As the weekend closed, visitors departed soaked but pleased. Pilots, volunteers, and fans alike proved that passion for history endures—even in rainy weather. The Me 262 and FW‑190 performances became the defining moments of this event, showing how past and present continue to connect in the skies.
