Catch-22 Star

“Yankee Doodle”, the Tri-State Warbird Museum’s own B-25 Mitchell bomber, was once a movie star. This bomber was part of the 1970 film adaptation of “Catch-22”, a satirical comedy war film adapted from Joseph Heller’s novel of the same name.

Nowadays, Yankee Doodle spends most of its time inside the hangars of the museum since 2004. The aircraft was built in Kansas City in August 1945 but was later converted to a pilot trainer after the war.

Yankee Doodle is currently wearing the paint scheme from the movie, which can be seen in all its glory in the video below. The bomber can be seen effortlessly taking off from Illinois as part of the 2021 TBM Avenger Reunion and Airshow. During the flight, its crew was more than happy enough to perform flybys over the enthusiastic crowd.
