What a Startup!

This footage features an F4U Corsair startup during WWII at MCAS Santa Barbara, taken on February 19, 1945. Both the pilot and the plane were assigned to VMF-351, later among the first marine squadrons that operated from escort carriers in the Pacific theater during the Second World War. The Corsair can exceed 400 mph in level flight and isย armed with an impressive range of bombs, heavy machine guns, and rockets.

In fact, the plane was so beloved by the Marines in the Pacific theater that they even named it the โ€œAngel of Okinawa.โ€ I wish the video had a sound, though, since the sound of the Corsairโ€™s engine would take it to a whole other level.
