FPV Dogfight – Too Close for Guns vs Freewing F-22 Raptor 90mm

Simulated Dogfights

We’ve seen people fit pyrotechnics on their RC planes for added effects. This time, however, the remote-controlled warbird is fitted with a head-tracking First Person View camera and a functional reflector sight.

Little tidbit: The Freewing F-22 Raptor 90mm also simulates the afterburner during takeoffs @ 0:49.

Interestingly enough, the remote-controlled F-22 was able to stave off the E-flite Viper 90mm for quite some time. The ViperJet experienced heavy wake turbulence as it tried to line up the sights behind the Raptor eight times.

You can only fool the Viper eight times, though. The Viper’s operator was finally able to “shoot down” the Raptor – with a rather loud burst of simulated gun sounds.

According to the uploader, the FPV camera allows the pilot to “intuitively follow” the lead plane simply by moving his head without losing sight. He later adds that it was the most immersive and realistic flying experience possible while flying an RC jet. We could not agree more!
