Though it may look gruesome, Charles County sheriff’s Lt. Scott Martray was able to survive the crash and was released from the hospital after one day.

According to reports, the helicopter was missing a bolt that should have been removed and reinstalled during maintenance six weeks earlier. Another bolt was also reported to be loose, according to the pilot, who felt like his foot controls weren’t working as intended.

Whatever it is, the pilot was lucky to leave the incident with just minor injuries.
