Pilot Dies After Small Planes Collide Mid-Air in Lancaster Area

A tragic mid-air collision occurred Sunday afternoon near Los Angeles, California, leaving one pilot dead and another person injured, according to local authorities.

The accident involved two vintage aircraft—a Yakovlev Yak 52 and a Nanchang CJ-6A—that collided in the skies near Lancaster, approximately 90 minutes north of Los Angeles, around midday.

One of the planes came down near the intersection of 47th Street East and Avenue F, while the second aircraft crashed near 60th Street East and Avenue G.

The National Transportation Safety Board is set to begin their investigation on Monday, while Lancaster deputies remained at the scene to manage traffic and secure the area with street closures.
