Some reports have claimed that the US Air Force is in possession of its newest, high-speed reconnaissance aircraft – the SR-72.
The news was revealed on the Defense & Aerospace Report Air Power Podcast’s Episode 40, where Vago Muradian, the editor-in-chief and host, said the Skunk Works-Lockheed Martin aircraft has already been delivered to the US Air Force.
Furthermore, the speculated aircraft was reportedly ‘CANCELED’ before it was ‘RESCOPED’ because of how ambitious it was.
The SR-72 is expected to be an unmanned, high-speed aircraft that has better recon capabilities than Russia’s and China’s aircraft. It is also expected to reach Mach 6, making it a hypersonic aircraft if true.
Still, only time will tell if this futuristic spy plane is actually real or not. If the rumors are true, then expect the SR-72 to be at the top of speed records for decades to come!
