The Zero Killer
There’s no doubt that one of the best carrier-based fighters of WWII is the Grumman F6F Hellcat. It was the bigger, and more powerful development of its earlier predecessor, the F4F Wildcat, and was specifically developed to counter Japan’s Zero fighter.
Its design sacrificed speed for a high rate of climb along with exceptional maneuverability. It also has a rugged and well-armored design.
This footage features the Grumman F6F-5 “Hellcat” from start-up to landing. It’s one of the best radial sounds we’ve ever heard!
This plane is part of the Fagen Fighters WWII Museums collection which features regular airshows around the United States including the EAA Airventure in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
