Still Looks Menacing!

Okay, hold on a minute. I just need to pick up my jaw from the floor.

Being one of the greatest fighter jets EVER, you just can’t help but be amazed at seeing it this close. Although it’s no longer a part of the active fleet of the US Navy since September 2006 and has been replaced by the Super Hornet, it remains to be an iconic war bird. So you may wonder why the Iranian Air Force is still flying this badass plane? Well, back in the late ’70s, the US sold F-14s to Iran and were used as land-based interceptors. They may no longer be fully mission-capable but they’re still intimidating to look at.

Iranian F-14s reportedly shot down at least 160 Iraqi aircraft during the Iran-Iraq War, while only 12 to 16 Tomcats were shot down; at least half of these losses were due to accidents.

The controller must have spilled his coffee when the Tomcat buzzed the tower.
