WWII’s Most Feared Sound?

The Junkers JU-87 Stuka Dive Bomber was considered one of the most feared weapons of the German war machine. Not only was it incredibly accurate with its bombing abilities, but it also came with a screeching sound, striking terror to the Allied soldiers, sailors, and airmen.

The plane was developed in the mid-1930s, but it would truly make a name for itself during the first few years of WWII. The creation of its famous noise came from two attached sirens. Essentially, it was a hollow piece of metal with a small hole and miniature propellers helping draw the air into the hole causing the loud screeching sound. They were also known as the Jericho trumpets.
