Great Stuff

The Junkers Ju 87 “Stuka” is a dive bomber and ground attack aircraft of Germany. It made its first combat debut in 1937 during the Spanish Civil War. Furthermore, it also served under the Axis forces during World War II from the start of the war in 1939 up until the end in 1945.

You can easily recognize the JU 87 with its inverted gull wings and fixed spatted undercarriage. Upon the leading edges of this faired primary gear legs were mounted ram-air sirens.

This rare World War II footage features the iconic plane in action. We can say that sound from the Stukas siren is terrifying! Pilots even nicknamed the siren, “The Trumpets of Jericho,’ as it was explicitly added to cause terror and confusion on the ground. It worked of  course.
