Most Popular American Aircraft?

The A-10 Thunderbolt is a plane that first flew in 1972, and is still in service today, flying for over 50 years. Over 700 have been built, becoming an icon for close air support for the United States military.

The A-10, referred to as the Warthog or just the Hog – is inspired by one of the most loved and rugged planes of WWII, the Republic P-47 Thunderbolt. But unlike the P-47, A10s are developed only for close air support. It can also act in the role of forward controller airborne directing other planes and attacks on ground targets.

The A-10 became one of the most popular aircraft flown in America and was featured in numerous video games and big-budget Hollywood movies. In fact, in the movie Transformers, for example, paid a real army, Air Force extras, and real A-10s.
