Another Balloon!?
Fighter jets were scrambled again to intercept a balloon seen floating over Colorado and Utah last Friday. The unidentified balloon was flying at altitudes between 43,000 and 45,000 ft, slightly higher than most commercial planes.
A US official said the balloon seemed to be made of Mylar and had a small cube-shaped box dangling below it.
NORAD fighters determined that the “small” balloon was in fact not maneuverable and did not present any threat to national security.
Officials have said that the balloon was not sent by a foreign adversary either. However, NORAD still hasn’t revealed where the balloon came from.
This event is reminiscent of last year, when the US shot down a large Chinese spy balloon off the coast of South Carolina after it stayed airborne for a week over the country.
