What an Engine!

The Douglas A-1 Skyraider was a US single-seat attack aircraft that served between the late 1940s and the early 1980s.

The fighter had a long and successful career, which eventually inspired the development of its successor – the straight-winged, jet-powered, A-10 Thunderbolt II.

The Skyraider was built around a barrel-like fuselage, with rigid lines that looked anything but graceful.

Still, it emanated power, carrying up to 8,000 lbs of ordnance, more than the B-17 Flying Fortress.

In this footage, we get to see the Douglas A-1 Skyraider airplane do a cold startup with its old radial plane engines, and it sounds great.

What a machine – we absolutely love this plane!
