Nobody Expected It
It was on January 2, 1967, when American fighter pilot and WWII “triple ace” Robin Olds pulled a trick up his sleeve that led to the destruction of seven out of 16 MiG-21s in North Vietnam.
He tricked the North Vietnamese into believing that the F-4 Phantoms were F-105s on a bombing run, hoping to draw the enemy into combat. At first, no MiGs engaged, and Olds thought the plan failed. But when the next flight of F-4s ran straight into a group of MiG-21s, a fierce dogfight ensued- the strike force was able to draw the MiGs into combat.
Of the 16 total North Vietnamese MiG-21s, they destroyed nearly half that day. Definitely, a true hero! What do you think about this amazing feat?
