Stunning WWII Fighter- What a Sound!

This video features the North American P-51D Mustang “Frances Dell” at the Flugplatzkerb Gelnhausen last year, emitting an awesome engine and gun port whistle sound.

Got to say, the sound of that Packard-Merlin is music to the ears! Hearing those gun ports whistle definitely gives us chills. 

It’s amazing how this plane – designed and built more than 80 years ago remains sleek and sounds good. Not to mention the interesting history behind it.

The plane was named Frances Dell after fighter pilot Clark Clemons’ girlfriend. However, the story goes that when he returned home after the war, she had already left him for another man.

That’s…. pretty sad.
