Sparks On The Runway!
Two pilots have been praised for their impeccable precision after they were forced to do an emergency landing in the dark at Coolangatta Airport this past week.
The pilot alerted ATC that their landing gear wasn’t working at around 8 PM. They then circled the airport to burn fuel and hopefully reduce the chance of ignition before landing.
Sparks flew beneath the fuselage as it landed on the runway without the landing gear deployed. Fortunately, Emergency services were already standing by while the touchdown happened.
The plane was owned by Air Gold Coast — a reputable student flying school — but it was being flown by two experienced pilots at the time.
The two pilots were assessed at the scene and were confirmed to be uninjured. The cause of the incident will now be investigated.
