Bad weather and high landing speeds are something you just don’t mess with when you’re flying an aircraft this big from the ‘80s.
This Russian Tu-22M3 bomber crashed as it landed in the Murmansk region north of the Arctic Circle. The aircraft hit the runway and broke in two upon impact, killing three crew members and sending the other one in the hospital.
Fortunately for the other guy, the supersonic heavy bomber wasn’t carrying any weapons during the flight – though it didn’t stop the aircraft from exploding shortly after impact.
Aviation experts believe that the likely cause of the crash was the vertical wind gust that suddenly hit the plane just before it touched down.
